Best Be Focused alternative for Mac
Be Focused is the better pick if you mainly want a clean Pomodoro timer that syncs across Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Focuh is the free Mac and web ADHD todo list if the leak is the day itself: Today next to Google Calendar, loops that wait until you pull them, and Mac blocking that holds sites and apps while the timer runs.
Free. Early beta. No subscription.
Where Be Focused wins
Be Focused is a small, polished Pomodoro timer that has lived in the Mac menu bar for years. It runs your work and break intervals, keeps a log of finished sessions, shows your stats over time, and comes with iPhone and iPad apps that sync, so the same timer and the same history follow you from the desk to the couch to the train. It is deliberately single-purpose: a timer, a basic task list to attach sessions to, and nothing you have to set up. If you want the same interval timer on every Apple device you own, or you already keep yourself off distractions and just want the clock, Be Focused does that job cleanly and Focuh does not try to. Focuh has no iPhone or iPad app.
Where Focuh wins
Focuh is an ADHD todo list for Mac and web. Today sits next to Google Calendar. Week is the week. Loops are standing to-dos with no date: you pull a copy onto today and the loop stays. Goals are the one win for the horizon. Be Focused counts the minutes, but it has no calendar, no week, and nothing that stops you opening Reddit ninety seconds into the interval. The Focuh focus timer starts from a task, so the session already knows what it is about, and on Mac the blocklist is part of that session: the block is enforced at the system level through Accessibility, so it covers Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Arc at once, and apps too. Slack, Discord and Messages stay closed for the length of the session. Focuh also syncs the same list between the Mac app and the web app, so the plan is there on any machine even where the Mac blocker is not.
Price: Be Focused is free with a paid Pro upgrade that removes ads and unlocks sync and extra stats. Focuh is free. Early beta. No subscription. The blocking, the calendar and the web app are not behind a tier. If the sync paywall is what sent you looking, Focuh syncs Mac and web without a paid tier; if it is the missing planner, read on.
Who should pick which
Pick Be Focused if you want a clean Pomodoro timer and nothing else: intervals in the menu bar, a session log with stats, and the same timer on your iPhone and iPad, next to a task manager you already have. Pick Focuh if you are on Mac and the leak is the day itself: you need Today next to GCal, a week view, loops that wait until you pull them, and a blocker that holds across every browser and app on the machine while the timer runs, with the same list waiting in the web app. Neither one is an unbreakable vault. Focuh can be switched off by a determined user in System Settings, and Be Focused never blocks anything, so choose on whether the timer should measure the session or hold it.
