Best Serene alternative for Mac
Serene is the better pick if you mainly want a guided focus session planner with a website blocker on desktop. Focuh is the free Mac and web ADHD todo list if the leak is the day itself: Today next to Google Calendar, loops that wait until you pull them, and Mac blocking that holds sites and apps while you work.

Where Serene wins
Serene is a desktop focus app built around one daily ritual. You write down the one goal for the day, break it into a handful of timed sessions, and then Serene walks you through them: the timer runs, the sites and apps you named go dark, a focus playlist plays if you want it, and the app tells you when to take a break. That guided, plan-then-execute flow is the product, and it is very well done. If you want to be led through a focused day rather than left alone with a list, Serene is the sharper tool. Its desktop website blocking UX is also polished: pick your distractions once, start a session, and the block just runs for the length of it, with the music and the timer in the same window. Focuh has no focus music and does not script your day into sessions for you, so if either of those is the point, stay on Serene.
Where Focuh wins
Focuh is an ADHD todo list for Mac and web. Today sits next to Google Calendar. Week is the week. Loops are standing to-dos with no date: you pull a copy onto today and the loop stays. Goals are the one win for the horizon. Serene plans one day at a time as a linear list of sessions, with no week view, no calendar next to the plan, and no home for the recurring work that is not due on a date. The Focuh focus timer starts from a task, so the session already knows what it is for, and the blocklist is part of that session rather than a separate setup step. On Mac the blocklist is enforced at the system level, so it covers Safari, Firefox, Arc and Chrome at once, and it covers apps as well, so Slack, Discord and Messages go quiet too. Focuh also syncs the same list between the Mac app and the web app, so the plan is there on any machine even where the Mac blocker is not. Serene lives on the desktop it is installed on.
Price: Serene is a paid subscription, listed at around $4 a month. Focuh is free. Early beta. No subscription.
Who should pick which
Pick Serene if you want a guided daily ritual: one goal, a few timed sessions, a desktop blocker and focus music in one window, and you are happy to pay for it. Pick Focuh if you are on Mac and the leak is the day itself: you need Today next to GCal, a week view, loops that wait until you pull them, and a blocker that holds across every browser and app on the machine while the timer runs, with the same list waiting in the web app. Some people move from one to the other as the problem changes. Serene when the job is to get through today in order, Focuh when the job is knowing what today should be and protecting the time to do it.
